What did we cover the Uptime Wind Energy Podcast this week? All the news you probably haven’t had time to read, plus tiny houses made of nacelles and new, lifesaving equipment.
But before we go there, you might want to go to Melbourne, Australia for a technical conference focused on asset performance and profitability. In Melbourne, the home of wind energy in Australia, a large percentage of wind energy projects are approaching their magical 20th year, when manufacturer’s service agreements end and asset owners are likely to be stuck with expensive repairs and/or repowering projects.
Our own podcast host, Rosemary Barnes, is just one of many wind energy experts presenting on and answering your questions about operations, maintenance and budgeting at Wind Energy O&M Australia.
Real O&M Answers from Experts: See You in February!
The two-day educational event with practical presentations, candid discussions, and information you can use the day you return to work, is held Feb. 11-12 at the State Library Victoria. Register today!

GE Vernova: What’s the Story?
As Phil, Allen and Joel discussed GE Vernova’s wind segment Q3 results, and the initial report focused on strong onshore numbers, but significant, continued challenges in offshore wind cast shadows on the company’s future.
On the one hand, the company has a healthy cash base and its electrification (grid and infrastructure) efforts are solid. Also positive: it looks like GE Vernova will hit its planned goal of making 1,000 wind turbines in 2025 - but that’s just not the same thing as a healthy wind business. Especially when the company still isn’t taking offshore orders.
Which manufacturing company, or companies, can fill equipment needs in the US? It’s a question worth exploring, and we do.
Personal Evacuation Equipment, Where You Need It
Just a couple of months ago, Cresto introduced RESQ Solo X to give turbine technicians and others working at height a serious tool - and peace of mind - that they can carry with them everywhere they go.
The Solo X’s novel, lightweight design puts a personal evacuation device designed specifically for the wind industry literally on their person. Like other vital pieces of PPE, techs can carry the device with them on their shift, so it’s available at all times, wherever they are in a turbine.
