What did we cover the Uptime Wind Energy Podcast this week? While BP Energy is up for sale as the company seems freshly enamored of (surprise) oil and gas, a Dutch delegation descended on Connecticut’s State Pier.
Bob Meijer, head of the delegation and a director of the TKI Wind op Zee, said the visit was about finding ways to share knowledge and collaborate. From investments to manufacturing to training, the possibilities are interesting, to say the least. We’ll stay on top of this for you.
Other news stories we’re following include floating wind moving forward in the Gulf of Maine and Nova Clean Energy’s growing portfolio in Texas. Those stories and others are linked below - one click will take you to the article. But before you go, we’ve got something for you to ponder.
With plenty of wind resources and decades of experience, why are one-third of Australia’s wind farms losing money?
Don’t Jump to Conclusions
Like most things about wind, there’s no easy answer here. Allen, Joel, Phil and Rosemary consider the surprisingly long payback period for most Australian wind projects, what high market penetration has done to energy costs, and what US wind projects might be doing better than those down under. (- what?! -)
That, of course, is just scratching the surface of a multi-layered discussion. Site selection, equipment, and OEM service agreements also come into play.
Also in this week’s podcast: a little foreshadowing as you’ll hear about some possible key guests at Wind Energy O&M Australia.

Make the Data Make Sense
If you work in wind, you know that integrating data from a variety of sources can complicate decision making when it should enhance operational efficiency. SkySpecs CTO, Tom Brady, knows that too - and in a recent interview, he explained how SkySpecs is making the process, and the data, more helpful. Tune in.
Wind Farm of the Week
Our Wind Farm of the Week feature highlights some of the interesting ways wind operations are developed, and how they contribute more than “just” wind power to the communities they serve. See a few of the wind farms we’ve featured here.
