Wind Industry Innovations Drive Operational Improvements - and Profits
The sooner they lead to better margins, the better for the industry
It seems the industry will never tire of building bigger turbines - and there’s a lot to be said for power and size. But we have been energized lately by the incredible talent in small (and larger) companies that are focused on maximizing the operation of existing turbines.

Like repowering, these new solutions may be less-sexy endeavors than building bigger turbines, but improving turbine performance and longevity comes with a big payoff. These innovations can make a real difference in Wind Energy - a much-needed difference! As the industry struggles, and many countries (not just the US) are not investing in the technology and development as we’d like to see (there really IS an energy crisis, or maybe two or three…more on that in another post), technology and operational innovations will help the industry stay afloat, grow, and - let’s hope! - thrive.
In an exclusive PES Wind article, we focused on the business and people who are dedicated to keeping turbines running in the field, and making them run more efficiently.
We invite you to read Shifting Gears: the Evolution from Wind Energy Development to Operational Excellence, to see exactly how that’s happening at companies around the world.
