Siemens Gamesa and Unite struck a deal that ended a labor dispute between the company and about 300 workers. The result is a 2-year pay increase worth about 8.4% to the employees who work at the Hull plant. Then, the company applied to expand the plant. We’ll follow up on that soon… but first, let’s talk about the pesky notion of competing with Chinese manufacturers.
You’ve probably heard that Renexia and the Italian government entered into a MOU with Minyang to supply turbines for the floating offshore project Med Wind. The chief reason cited: Minyang can deliver by the first half of 2026. While the 500M Euro investment will create a new company to “manage the production of wind turbines in Italy,” are they really Italian made?
Joel, Allen and Phil dig in to the ramifications (there are many) and the alternatives (which are few).
Can Siemens Gamesa compete with China on QUALITY?
After an abysmal sales report, the CEO of Siemens Energy said its products will compete with Chinese turbines on quality, not price. While Phil points out that Siemens’ offshore blades are created with a different manufacturing process than those of the troubled 4x-5x platforms, the company still has a lot of questions to answer. The gloves come off as Allen, Phil and Joel consider how the manufacturer can prove its brand is reliable without discounting its products. Listen in and send us your thoughts!
