Will Siemens Gamesa New 21MW Pass the Test?
As it rolls toward testing, Siemens Gamesa’s brand new wind turbine has “the whole supply chain watching,” Joel says.
How long with the supply chain watch before orders start rolling in? And backing up a step, how soon will insurers get on board - or start raising rates - as the largest, latest offshore turbine is introduced to the world.
Backing up another step or two, why is Siemens investing in the giant now? Does the company have some assurance that EU developers will order the new turbines, rather than look at Chineses models?
Allen, Joel, and Phil consider some of the factors that ultimately led Siemens to bet BIG on the future of wind…even as the company, and Vestas, have closed some manufacturing facilities and laid off hundreds of workers. In a thoughtful discussion, the team reviews what responses they expect to see from GE, Nordex and other players, onshore and off, in the US and across the globe.
It’s a Transition, Not a Gloom-and-Doom Scenario
If you get your news from social media, you know that the incoming US administration is all about oil and gas and, that might be true. But energy in any form is big business, and investors aren’t all about anything except making money. Transitioning to renewables by investing some of those rich oil profits into wind, solar, and other energy sources is a smart business strategy.
Just ask Norway. Is the country gearing up to replace Russian oil and gas to the rest of the EU? Accents aside, we’re pretty sure the phrase “Drill, Baby, Drill” translates well.
